QUESTION:

Hi Keith,

In the next few weeks, I will be undergoing chemotherapy. And of course, this means I will be in need of a “natural” hair replacement soon. I figured a wig would be the number one answer. I know the best wigs would be the custom wigs. I imagine those wigs would both look and feel better, but the important thing is that I don’t want it to look like a wig at all for obvious reasons. With my chemo treatments starting in the next few weeks, I obviously don’t have too much time, and I’m not sure what something like that would cost. Is there anything you know that could help me?  (Sylvia A.)

ANSWER:

Dear Sylvia,

The best answer I know would be a high-quality human hair wig made specifically for chemotherapy patients. We have some beautiful wigs that you can see and talk with us about.  Unlike wigs that you might see online or elsewhere, we specialize in helping those undergoing chemotherapy treatments or any number of other causes of hair loss. We will help you choose your wig, match it to your existing hair, style it for you, and teach you how to take care of it so it looks beautiful and natural so you can concentrate on getting better and not have to worry about your hair or what others might think.

I’m so sorry to hear about your cancer. I know that this can be a very difficult time. We do recommend that you come see us before you start your treatments since that will give us an opportunity to see your hair and match it perfectly so you can keep your treatments as private as you may wish. After all, we want people to notice how beautiful your hair is and not be thinking about how your treatments are affecting your life, both socially and on the job. To be honest, it is worth going with a wig such as you mention. When you look good, it can help you feel good as well, and that helps you positively focus on anything more than getting better as quickly as you can.

Please feel free to contact me to schedule a complimentary, private consultation.  And if there is anything else, just let me know. Good luck to you and continue to be strong!
